Join Powerhouse Science Center Team at This Year’s Walk ‘N Rock for Kids on May 29 at Raley Field

SACRAMENTO, CA. – By participating or donating in the third annual Walk ‘N Rock for Kids, individuals or groups can help raise funds for the future Powerhouse Science Center and its current operation, the Discovery Museum Science & Space Center.

The Powerhouse Science Center was selected as an affiliate in Hope Production’s Walk ‘N Rock For Kids, a fundraising 5K walk and benefit concert that supports local children’s charities. The walk will be held Sunday, May 29, 8 a.m., at Raley Field in Sacramento. An evening concert, featuring rock band KISS, begins at 7:30 pm at Raley Field.

Hope Productions Foundation recognized Powerhouse Science Center/Discovery Museum Science & Space Center for significant contributions benefitting area youth, and enriching STEM education (science, math, technology, engineering, space) in the Sacramento region.

The Powerhouse/Discovery Museum teams aim to have as many participants as possible and has been challenged to raise $30,000 as one of this year’s non-profit affiliates. Individuals who successfully raise $500 or more receive free admission to the concert and are invited to an exclusive VIP reception prior to the show.

“I want to thank all the determined volunteers and organizers at Hope Productions for including us in this year’s Walk ‘N Rock,” said Michele Wong, Interim Executive Director of the Discovery Museum Science & Space Center and Co-Chair of the Powerhouse Science Center steering committee. “It will be a fun and memorable event that will benefit so many wonderful organizations in the Sacramento community. Come on out and Walk ‘N Rock with us!”

The Powerhouse Science Center will cost an estimated $50 million by its planned date of completion in 2013. It will become the new home for the 60-year old Discovery Museum Science & Space Center, which is currently located at 3615 Auburn Blvd.

Located on the scenic banks of the Sacramento River, the Powerhouse Science Center will be the premier science learning center serving Northern California, functioning as a model for 21st-century experiential STEM education, and environmental stewardship. The design will be an exemplary “green” building that serves as an environmental teaching lab. The Powerhouse Science Center has nearly completed its pre-construction phase.

Teams of supporters, families, and businesses will be kicking off the Walk ‘N Rock with the 5K walk at 8 a.m. on Sunday morning. Following the walk, participants can enjoy free entertainment, kid’s activities, delicious food and drink, and fun interactive booths.

KISS, regarded as one of the most influential rock and roll bands of all time, will be the featured artists at the benefit concert. Tickets to see KISS perform cost $40 at ticketmaster.com.

The 5K walk is free for children under 6. The registration fee for children ages 6-17 costs $10 and adults pay $20. All participants receive a commemorative ‘Walk ‘N Rock For Kids’ baseball cap.
