Become a Founding Partner:
The Powerhouse Science Center is planned as a destination for school groups, families, and tourists. The facility will create more than 300 jobs and help vitalize Sacramento’s riverfront area and open the space for more public usage. Located on the scenic banks of the Sacramento River, the Center will be the premier science learning center serving Northern California. It will function as a model for 21st-century experiential STEM education (science, math, technology, engineering, space) and environmental stewardship. The facility itself will be an exemplary “green” building that serves as an environmental teaching lab.
Current founding partners – local business, technology, political, and academic leaders – are actively involved in Powerhouse events and activities. For more information on the founding partner program, please contact Peter Willson at (916) 853-0381 or pwillson@powerhousesciencecenter.org.
Volunteer:
Volunteers provide vital support throughout the Museum, assisting with special events and museum programs, and lending a helping had to staff behind-the-scenes.
All kinds of people volunteer at the Discovery Science & Space Center, from teenagers to seniors and from science novices to science professionsals. Volunteering is an opportunity to teach, to learn, to meet people, and to experience a stimulating environment. Some of our volunteers contribute just a few hours a month, while others prefer to work several hours each week. If you are interested in being a museum volunteer, please call the Volunteer Coordinator at (916)808-3942, or emailvolunteers@thediscovery.org.

Attend Upcoming Events:
The Powerhouse Science Center will have a little football power behind it this Fall. The Sacramento Mountain Lions, of the United Football League, have selected the Powerhouse Science Center as their featured charity for their home season opener.
“The Mountain Lions have brought a level of excitement to our region and we want our members and supporters to help us capitalize on that momentum,” said Peter Willson, director of development for Powerhouse Science Center. “Here’s an opportunity to show our enthusiasm for football AND science – what a powerful combination!”
The opening game is set September – the exact date to be announced – but the Mountain Lions are happy to be on the Powerhouse team. “Personally, I can’t wait to take my family to the new science center once it’s completed,” said Joe Wagoner, vice president of business operations for the Mountain Lions. “This is a great way to kick off our charity program this season. We had a good experience supporting the Powerhouse Science Center last year, and we hope it’s even better this year.”
The 60-year old Discovery Museum Science & Space Center in northeast Sacramento will become the Powerhouse Science Center when it moves in 2013 to the site of the historical Pacific Gas & Electric power station building on Jibboom Street in Sacramento.
For more information on how YOU can support both the new science center and the Mountain lions by purchasing tickets to the Mountain Lion season opener on September 17, please call (916) 808-3942.
